Some methods of concrete levelling for walkway jobs include:

  • Drilling holes in the concrete, which are then filled with expansion foam
  • “Slab jacking” is a similar process, but the mixture injected is a combination of grout and foam

Concrete Floor Levelling

Concrete is one of the most durable building materials, but even so it may develop dips, depressions, and unevenness. While it’s possible to do it yourself, it’s best to air on the side of caution if you’re unsure of your personal skill level. You’ll see this as a necessity when rehabbing old buildings and dealing with sagging, cracks, and other issues. This is where concrete floor levelling becomes an important move.
By applying a concrete levelling mix, you’ll fill in the cracks, sags, and other problems spots. The end result will be a freshly levelled concrete floor that you can be proud of.

How to Level a Concrete Floor

Levelling a concrete floor is a relatively involved process. For the do-it-yourselfer, there are a lot of steps you’ve got to take in order to level the floor properly. While they may not be particularly difficult, it represents a lot of time, energy, and work that you may want to hire a professional to handle the job.
The following steps are necessary for properly levelling your concrete floor:

  • Clear out the room of all furniture, appliances, trim, etc.: You’ll want all the space cleared of obstructions.
  • Scrape and vacuum the floor well: Using a metal scraper and shop vac, get the floor as clean and clear of debris as possible before continuing
  • Fill large holes and cracks with concrete filler: This is essential for preventing future sagging and cracking in the future
  • Mark high and low points with chalk: This shows you where you’ll need to grind down concrete in the next step
  • Grind down high spots with a concrete grinder: You can rent concrete grinders from hardware stores or other similar establishments
  • Apply primer to the concrete with a push broom:
  • Allow the primer to dry: This should take between 3 and 24 hours.
